Will a European Degree Be Recognized in the U.S.?
There is no single U.S. agency that “approves” every foreign degree. Recognition depends on what you need the degree recognized for.
Who decides recognition?
The U.S. Department of Education explains that recognition depends on the purpose. Universities decide for further study, employers decide for employment, state licensing authorities decide for regulated professions, and immigration authorities decide for immigration purposes.
Credential evaluations
Some receiving institutions or employers evaluate foreign credentials themselves. Others ask for an evaluation from a private credential-evaluation service. The U.S. Department of Education does not evaluate foreign qualifications itself.
Professional licensure deserves extra care
For careers such as medicine, nursing, teaching, engineering or other regulated professions, students should research the relevant state or professional licensing pathway before choosing a degree abroad.

Do not ask only “Is this university good?” Ask “Will this degree structure support what I want to do afterward, in the place where I expect to live?”
